Thank you to our outgoing Board Members & welcome to our incoming Board Members!

GOV would like to express our immense gratitude to our outgoing board members, whose two-year (2020-2022) term expired at the conclusion of the AGM last Saturday, December 3, 2022.

Jonathan Plata, Laura Barkley, Stephanie Simard, and Tim Klodt have been dedicated members of GOV for many years. During their term as Board Members, they have guided GOV through some challenging times, especially during the pandemic. Their term with the Board has also resulted in major decisions including navigating through GOV’s new status as a not-for-profit organization, cancellation of our 2020 indoor leagues, and refinements of GOV’s bylaws and policies. During their term, GOV has seen a significant increase in our membership, GOV reception of the OTF Grant, the start of our summer beach league, and greater dedication to skill development through our skills and drills programs.

A special thanks go to Tim Klodt, our longest-serving Board Member, whose hard work was instrumental incorporating GOV into a not-for-profit organization, not to mention being Chair of the Board from 2018-2021!!

We wish our outgoing directors the best of luck in the future. We hope to continue to draw from their experience and wisdom in the years to come. Thank you, thank you!!

What are you most proud of in your time as GOV Board Member?

Launching our GOV Summer League is my biggest accomplishment, but also keeping volleyball offerings going (Monday drop in and modified fall/winter league) when no other leagues were running.

- Jonathan Plata, GOV Board Member (2020-2022)

“I’m extremely proud of the relationships and friendships I was able to build as an outsider to the league. The amount of dedication, resilience and loyalty some of the people have shown makes them a huge asset to GOV and the community.”

- Stephanie Simard, GOV Board Member (2020-2022)

I have enjoyed my two years on the board. It allowed me to work with some great people to help keep GOV running. I liked helping organize our skills and drills programs as well as our one-day tournaments.

- Laura Barkley, GOV Board Member (2020-2022)

On the board for 5.5 years between the provisional board and two terms on the elected board. I started on the provisional board in 2017 where as a member at-large I lead on drafting the first bylaws. I started on the first elected board in 2018. I took the lead on beginning to draft the policy manual, including the Code of Conduct, Nominations policy, Roles and responsibilities policy and guidance for board meetings.

As chair, I’m proud of leading the board over 3.5 years through debates and discussions that resulted in major decisions such as incorporating as a not for profit corporation, and providing full refunds to players after the cancellation of the 2020 gala due to the pandemic.

- Tim Klodt, GOV Board Member (2018-2022), Chair of the Board 2018-2021)

GOV welcomes its incoming Board Members (2022-2023)

GOV welcomes its incoming Board Members!! At the 2022 AGM, GOV members elected Denis Bégin, Mackenzie Mumby, Sam Charbonneau, and Sheen Andola to the Board of Directors. While they have big shoes to fill, we are confident they will rise to the challenge! Please join us in wishing our new Directors the best as they begin their two-year term.

GOV would also like to thank Jackson Eyres and Tony Bui for their candidacy for the Board. Their campaigns have energized and engaged our membership, and we wish for their continued involvement with GOV. Thank you, Jackson and Tony!
